The Generosity Practice - Session 04: Be Generous to the Poor

This session is from the Generosity Practice made by Practising the Way.

Key Scripture: Luke 11:39-41

Concern for the poor holds a prominent place in God’s heart, and this priority is reflected in Jesus’ teaching and in the practices of his earliest followers. For apprentices of Jesus, the goal isn’t just to share resources with those in need, but to create a new kind of family – one that cares for the practical needs of those around them, and treats all people with dignity.

Initial Questions

  1. How did the truth that everything belongs to God free you to live more generously this week?

  2. Did you sense God say anything to you about the way you steward your resources this week?

  3. What is one way that you have lived as a "caretaker" this week? What did that look like?

  4. One year from now, what do you want your life to look like with regards to money, simplicity, and generosity?

Reflection Questions

  1. In what ways are you inspired by stories of radical generosity? In what ways do they challenge you?

  2. In your everyday life, how often do you find yourself proximate to those on the margins of our society? What has it looked like to share your resources with them?

  3. Who in your life has access to the way you steward your finances? And do they have permission to speak into it honestly? If not, who could you invite into this space?

  4. As we finish this Practice, what invitations to generosity do you sense the Spirit extending?
